Basic Purpose:
Under general direction from a VP of Technology, the Senior IT Specialist has broad decision making authority and independence, and serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex issues. This classification requires thorough knowledge of computer diagnostic and repair techniques, and network administration tools in order to provide overall support of new and existing IT systems to all clients.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answers technical support calls from clients.
- Researches parts, equipment, and current technical trends.
- Conducts complex troubleshooting of IT environments including OS, networks, applications and hardware.
- Manages a staff of 3 to 5 Junior IT Specialists and provides work direction and schedule management.
- Oversees the installation and configuration IT hardware, software, and peripheral components.
- Selects equipment and designs new installation of equipment for clients.
- Travels to client locations to perform onsite support.
- Prepares progress reports and updates executive management on status of problems.
- Keeps informed of most recent trends and technologies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Employee Characteristics:
- Must be personable, communicate well, display patience and the ability to provide training and assistance to computer users on technology.
- Mastery of Computer Software (e.g., network administration tools; imaging software);
- Mastery of Computer Hardware (e.g., IT systems; network cards; servers; LAN diagnostic equipment);
- Mastery of Computer Operating Systems (e.g., Windows, DOS; Macintosh);
- Mastery of Networking Technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory)
- Experience in Cisco products PIX firewall, 2500, 2600 series routers, CCNA and Cisco VPN software a plus.
- Ability to interpret technical material in books, journals, or manuals; troubleshooting computer system problems;
- Self starter that operates under little to no supervision.
Education/Experience Requirement:
- Cisco CCNA/CCNP and/or Microsoft MCP Required
- Requires a 4 year technical degree (BS/BA) in Information Science, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent degree.
- Requires 7+ years of experience in systems (hardware and software) support.
- All applicants will be required to pass the ITelagen entrance exam during interview.
