Allergy and Asthma Associates of Northern California (AAANC) is a dedicated group of Board Certified Specialists in Adult & Pediatric Asthma, Allergy & Immunology and Pulmonary Disease. Formed in 1965, AAANC has eight locations across the Bay Area that serve a large number of patients, with many referrals from local physicians. Pat Cunnane joined AAANC as Executive Director in 2007.
AAANC decided to move to the NextGen financial platform in 2010 to keep up with recently introduced government incentive programs. AAANC did not have an internal IT department and wanted an expert partner to oversee the transition, plus provide ongoing hosting and support for all of its locations. AAANC reached out to local providers to understand how they were managing their NextGen systems.

One Independent Practice Association (IPA) conveyed that it was impressed with the responsiveness, system stability and uptime that ITelagen provided. Based upon the IPA’s recommendation, AAANC initiated a long-term partnership with ITelagen across all its sites.
Prior to switching to NextGen, AAANC had not used Windows products, so the migration was complex. ITelagen helped AAANC smoothly transition to the NextGen platform, and now provides cloud hosting, hardware and software support, plus optimization and training for different applications. ITelagen also managed an email migration for AAANC and now hosts its email in the cloud.
“We have eight sites and no full-time IT staff. I can’t be in every location when an issue comes up,” says Pat Cunnane. “I can always call ITelagen and know that they will quickly help wherever we need it.”

AAANC’s partnership with ITelagen has been a particularly good fit for several reasons:
- Unlike many healthcare facilities that rely on support from a parent organization, AAANC is an independent practice with no dedicated internal IT department.
- AANC locations are around Silicon Valley, where it is difficult to find and retain high-quality IT staff because of talent demand and higher-paying job opportunities in the immediate area.
